Hand washing cold is a gentle way to clean delicate garments. Here are some tips to ensure you do it right:

1. Use Cold Water

  • Always use cold water, as it prevents colors from bleeding and fabrics from shrinking.

2. Choose a Mild Detergent

  • Use a gentle, detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics, or even baby shampoo. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage fibers.

3. Prepare the Wash Basin

  • Fill a clean basin or sink with cold water and add the detergent. Swirl the water to dissolve the detergent fully before adding your garment.

4. Submerge and Soak

  • Gently submerge the garment in the water. Let it soak for about 5-10 minutes to loosen dirt and stains.

5. Gently Agitate

  • Lightly swirl the garment in the water. Avoid scrubbing or twisting, which can stretch or damage the fabric.

6. Rinse Thoroughly

  • Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with fresh cold water. Rinse the garment by gently swishing it around. Repeat until the water runs clear.

7. Press, Don’t Wring

  • To remove excess water, press the garment gently between your hands or against the side of the sink. Avoid wringing or twisting, which can distort the shape.

8. Lay Flat to Dry

  • Lay the garment flat on a clean, dry towel. Roll the towel with the garment inside to absorb moisture, then reshape and lay flat on another dry towel to air dry.

9. Avoid Direct Sunlight

  • Dry the garment away from direct sunlight, which can fade colors and weaken fabrics.

10. Store Properly

  • Once dry, store the garment in a cool, dry place, preferably on a padded hanger or folded neatly to maintain its shape.
