Ellen MacArthur’s foundation released a rapport recently, which shows that the equivalent of a garbage truck of textiles wasted every second is landfilled or burned. The rapport also shows the fact that an estimated value of 500 billion USD is lost every year due to clothing that’s rarely worn or not often recycled. As if that’s not bad, the rapport states that the clothing industry release an equivalent amount of microfibers as 50 billion plastic bottles (half a million tons).
Stella McCartney co-host the launch of the rapport, and said that the exciting thing about the rapport is that it not only explains the bad situation, but it also presents solutions. For example are some of the solutions to create a new textiles economy, new materials, new business models and collaboration in the industry.
